Question

I was with a cable company from 2009 to 2013. I left for one year and have now returned. They are claiming I owe them $400 from 2005 and have added it to my new account balance. Is this legal?

Answer

Statue of limitations on it ran. You do not own the money, unless your prior agreement lists a different time for the statute of limitations. However, this does not mean that they have to provide service to you.

Answer

It's legal - but it's probably barred by the statute of limitations if the defense is raised.
