Question

If a person sponsors an immigrant to come tho the U.S., are they responsible for any medical costs should the immigrant be diagnosed with cancer after that person has entered the U.S.?

Answer

If you filed an Affidavit of Support, Form I-864, and the immigrant obtains a means-tested ("welfare"-type) benefit, then the Agency providing the benefit to the immigrant could seek reimbursement from you. If the person has medical insurance, then you will not be affected.
