I have two daughters in college and I am required to pay 1/2 of her tuition in addition to books and computers. The judgment states that I am also responsible for 1/2 of extracurricular activities. (My daughter is a cheerleader.)
My daughter wants to join a sorority and the fees are $2,000. My question is whether joining a sorority is an "extracurricular" activity, and is the custodial parent responsible for paying for the sorority dues?
I have two children in college and none living with their mother while away at college. In my opinion, the child support I provide ($2700.00 per month) should be sufficient to pay for the sorority.
Thank you in advance for your advice.
Answer
Different judges may have different opinions on the matter so there's no 100% right answer, but I think it's more likely than not that it'll be considered an extracurricular activity.
Answer
If this is instead of another fee, I would consider it. Standing alone, it is a luxury not a necessity. I would bet against it.
