Can Tennessee hold you in custody without giving a bond for over 72 hours, with no past criminal record?

Question

Can Tennessee hold you in custody without giving a bond for over 72 hours, with no past criminal record?

Answer

In short, it depends on the charge. It is not uncommon for a violation of probation warrant to be issued "hold without bond." By law, warrants for violation of parole are not eligible for bail bond.

For other arrests, a reasonable bond is required, but the person will be before a court on the next day the court (judge) is on the bench following their arrest and that will be the first time to ask for bond or a bond reduction.
